PRACTICING THE SPIRIT-EMPOWERED LIFE

Which of the following best describes the work of the Spirit in your life? Explain your selection.

- The Spirit has not been a major part of my spiritual life.

None of the above...

The Spirit has been a major part of my life, but not as an integrated whole. Growing up, the Spirit was highly associated with emotion. You knew the spirit was working in your life if you had a great altar time or the service ran 2 hours over. Having a normal length service without some type of "move of the spirit" meant that the Holy Spirit wasn't there.

Even when I moved away from this, there's still a subconcious understanding. In the last several years, I've become more aware of how the Spirit works in all areas of my life, speaking softly and silently sometimes with little emotion involved. In this sense, then, I'd say that I am seeing signs of the Spirit's presence in my life.

I think for me my sensing and responsiveness moves in waves, cycles and seasons. Lately, as I've come to intentionally accept more of pain that's resided in me for along time and hold it compassionate, my heart has been softening and some of the layers of accumulated bitterness and numbness have been letting go a bit at a time. As this happens, I feel I can breathe more Spirit in and respond with my whole being, becoming more attuned, as well.

This has been my experience as well.

There are times when the Spirit plays a bigger role in my life. There are times when other things are more important (or at least are in need of more of my time and energy).

When my energy is sapped by simple "survival" of my day, it's difficult for me to know how to be tuned into the Spirit without striving in an unhealthy way that makes me even more stressed out. What I've found is that when I'm able to abide in trust without having to force a feeling or prayer, that's when I feel most able to attune to God amidst life here on planet earth when things get overwhelming.
