We moved around quite a bit between Jr. High and High School, so I had lots of experiences of being a stranger. After moving three different times in 2 years (different states, mind you), we arrived in Salt Lake City, UT. I was 16 and very, very lonely.
The first church we visited had a wonderful youth group and I was thoroughly embraced and included from the moment I walked through the door. In particular, several of the youth sponsors, probably college aged, made a point to include me. At a point in life that I needed friends and a place to belong, people were there to welcome and include me. It was both a profound relief and a lot of fun!
