Spiritual Disciplines for a Life of Passion

Several of us have discussed a desire to create a space where we can come together as community and share our journeys in the area of Christian spiritual disciplines and practices. We long to encourage and enrish one another in pressing into God's creative and still rhythms, to enrich our relationship the One who Is through coming together as a group. We sense that a life of passion in any form is lived more fully when we allow ourselves opportunities to be with God in experiential ways. All are welcome. What are your thoughts on the best way to go about creating this space? One idea is to come up with several categories, make a post for each one and then add a sidebar link to each post so it's easily accessible as newer entries appear. Any other thoughts or suggestions?

This isn't quite on topic, but I came across an icon that I really like in which the Child is hidden within Theotokos. I've used it as a graphic in my first Advent blog entry at
Psaltery: First Sunday of Advent Entry.

By the way, I'm hoping to post an entry each day. Some people find reading a devotional each day during Advent to be a valuable spiritual discipline. I'm not saying what I write will rank up there with what you could buy elsewhere, but you're certainly welcome to read--and comment--at my place.

I have a suggestion for us. Renovare has a Spiritual Formation Workbook that we could do together. There are 8 sessions in the workbook covering 6 traditions including the contemplative tradition, holiness tradition, charismatic tradition, social justice tradition, evangelical tradition and incarnational tradition. Designed to be used by groups, each session has exercises and points of discussion/reflection. Would anyone be interested?

Sure...count me in.

I'll give it a try. I have to admit I've glanced at Devotional Classics by Reovare and had trouble getting into it, but I'm hopeful the workbook will help me become more engaged.

Well, then I guess I'll order the little workbook for myself and when we each have a copy we can begin. Jemila, I think you will like the workbook better because it is experiential versus Devotional Classics which is essentially a survey of the mystics...I like it but it isn't everyone's cup of tea. : )

I just ordered the workbook!

I still need to get to it...I had a copy but it was a friend's. I'm still trying to catch up from the hamster wheel of the holidays...

I'll do my best to find a copy the end of the week.

My copy just came in the mail. Shall we start in at the beginning of February and put out an invitation to anyone else who would like to participate?

Yes, Jemila. That sounds good. I'm still needing to get my own copy but I am looking forward to doing this with you both and who ever else is interested!
